Blog 3: The Game Plan - when to assess the results?

I need to admit something: I love chocolate cake. In fact some of my earliest memories are of watching the oven at home, waiting for my mum’s cake to be ready for consumption. If I was in charge, I would have opened the oven doors on regular occasions to see if it was ready. In doing that, of course, the cake would never rise.

So it is with the game plan. Putting action into creating your new plan will not often give immediate results. The actions needed take time to ‘cook.’ The more we expect the results to occur, the longer it can seem to occur. It can also stop the best result happening all together.

As I sometimes say to my patients, you need to be patient. When one focuses on taking the action instead of the results, then you can enjoy both. For instance if getting fit and losing weight is one of your goals, then focus on the actions that a fit healthy person would do. Watch how you are exercising and start to enjoy getting better at the individual activities you are doing.

Put your energy into creating and eating the food that really nourishes you and helps you get fit. Then the weight loss will be a happy by product. then you may deserve a small piece of freshly baked chocolate cake.
